baby kick! hi-ya!

felt me a genuine baby gesture of some sort. it’s a genuine ‘life is an incredible, wondrous miracle’ moment.

not much of nothing

15 10 2003

so, what’s going on.. not much of nothing, really… school school school as midterms approach, drawing purty pictures at night, and occasionally thinking of things to write for this website. unfortunately, this is not one of the better things thought of. I could get political here, but I am just too tired of it.

All I can say is, “Recall the Terminator!” If he runs for president, I swear I will move to Canada or the Netherlands. Look me up in 20 years; you can hold me to it.

son of the godfather of green bay

10 10 2003

Pete Schwaba is a family friend who is producing a movie named, “The Godfather of Green Bay,” in my hometown of Marinette, Wisconsin (see photolog here). Pete is a very funny guy, and I’m sure this movie will be great, so get out there and see it. The funniest part is not just that he pried my Dad’s wallet open to help fund it, but he also got him to appear in it. Apparently, he and Pete’s mother-in-law are going to be acting as an old married couple checking out of a hotel in the background of one scene.

Rock on, my daddy’s a movie star! Hmm… now, if I can just find someone to cast a crabby 67-year old leading man… Maybe he could beat up Chuck Heston?

chicago cubs sports madness

10 10 2003

Seems like everyone in Chicago is into the Cubs, except me. I don’t care a whit about baseball. I grew up in the north woods of Wisconsin. We didn’t have enough time for baseball in between smelting and shoveling. I like the drama of it, and I hope they do well, but steroids and corked bats have taken all the fun out of this for me.

I feel like an old crank for saying it, but it’s true. It’s funny, I recently re-read a few novels I had read before, namely, The Guide by RK Narayan and Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. What’s with all the initials? Anyway, both books struck me as less hopeful than my first readings of them, 15 years ago. Old and cranky, I be!

bike smackdown. bike: 1 me: 0

9 10 2003

Got my bike worked on as part of the ‘free fall tuneup’ which comes with the bike. I rode it home Tuesday night, and noticed that it shifted from 7th to 8th gear by itself. Eventually, this settled in during the ride, and I thought the problem gone with a little wear.

Unfortunately, the next morning, on biking my way into work, I stood up in the pedals to get a little more oomph out of my performance. The chain slipped gears from 8th to 7th while i was pumping it. the chain left the gears, the chain jammed the front gear. Resistance on the pedals went from extreme to none to extreme. Jason flew over the handlebars, depositing himself in the middle of the street, contents of shoulder bag and bike hardware strewn all over the street.

Concussed, I went to work for 2.5 hours, realized I was groggy, and then went home. The worst part about it is that I was too groggy to do anything, and also unable to go to sleep, since concussion folks can’t do that. It wasn’t a bad concussion, because I had a helmet on. It was more of a ‘shaken not stirred’ brain concussion.

Hmmm. I get the bike fixed on Saturday, for free, or there will be hell to pay.
