sicko!

Nothing makes you appreciate walking around on this blue marble in quite the same way as a really vicious virus. On Wednesday of last week I left the house without a jacket, paused, considered going back, and then trudged on to the train stop. It was the end of May in Chicago, how cold could it be?

Well, the previous day I’d been observing some usability testing on one of my designs at work. We had a few holes in the schedule, so pulled in a few ad hoc candidates from amongst our Orbitz employees, including a lady who had a vicious cold. She visited the observation room afterwards as we showed her the process, and then I sat in there the rest of the day, taking notes, observing people, inhaling germy air.

So, I got to work and immediately began shivering. I borrowed an extra shirt from a co-worker, drank lots of green tea, etc., all to no avail. I ended up with a fever which ranged from 101 to 103 degrees for the next three days, with every joint in my body aching. So, having had to live through that, just walking down the street seems like I’m leading a charmed life. The sucky part, though, was that I did not get to do the Bike the Drive event I’d been so looking forward to. Ah, well… Next year!
