Win what, exactly? Well, knowledge of more cool podcasts. And knowledge is power, after all. My buddy Dave Slusher of evil genius chronicles fame just launched a new beta site, amigofish. This ol’ boy here did the xhtml templates and some initial .css styles over the weekend. It’s ugly, and it’s beta. Dave, make some cash or sell it to Odeo so you can hire me to do it right!
Yuk, yuk, yuk. Ok, then. Back to reading about and pondering the implications of Nepal’s Maoists.

Honestly, I am not a regular bellyin’ up to the daytime talk show TV bar. I did watch a lot of Price is Right one summer when my aged English prof would have fits of trembling and cut class short. I believe it was the onset of Parkinson’s that was stopping his fascinating stories about hanging out with Dos Passos and crew, and it saddened me. So, I’d go home and watch the price is right and sip coffee and think about my own grandfather. We’d watch Price is Right in the mornings during the summer, too, and he, too, suffered from Parkinson’s. His was much more advanced, awfully so.
In any event, my other experience with daytime TV was Jerry Springer, one of the original crew of shlock TV innovators. Springer was also shown late at night in Chicago as a repeat. In any event, his antics have been surplanted today by Maury Povich. Maury’s topic kept me engaged for a full 5 minutes to see if I really understood the blurb in the bottom right corner of the screen. Today’s show: not the tired old concept of “Paternity test on Steve, my husband/boyfriend, etc.” Today’s show multiplies the concept: “You’re the 9th Man I’m Testing…Are You My Baby’s Daddy?”
Oy.

It’s my mom’s birthday today, and I wish we’d been there to celebrate it with her. In any event, she got flowers from us, and I just bought myself Diffusion of Innovation and Thinking With Type. I super-saver shipped ‘em, but I can’t wait for them to arrive.

Everyday, I have some IM conversation or email thread that would’ve been perfect for the site here, but instead it’s something I banter about with friends. I need to change my habits, but it’s hard!
World Usability Day was a great experience, a chance to get acquainted with new folks as well as reconnecting with old friends. More on this later, as it’s time to hop on the bike and pick up my Sophia!

Kayak’s Buzz looks pretty rockin’. I wonder if the ‘Wow’ I uttered is similar to the one folks uttered 5 years ago when Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz launched?
The thing that appeals to me is that there is no mediated marketing presence selling you the content. It is the content itself selling you the content. This is so much more honest and unmediated, it feels like the future. As well as the natural mapping of maps to travel. Who would’ve thought, Ponce de Leon?
