Chicago's New Bike Sharing Program is Up and Running!

So yesterday I tweet Mayor Daley and ask him when Chicago will get this. Lo and behold, today 'he' responds with this link. Sweet!

Therapeutic pickling

And I don't mean of my liver!

This is my first attempt at pickling, it's Kohlrabi and purple beans
from the garden. I planted the purple beans 'cause my daughter loves
purple. My mom brought down the Kohlrabi to plant in my garden the
last time she was to ever visit our house. They were ready to be
harvested.

At least, one was and the rest were growing so big they were too close
together. I picked them and, in memory of my mom and her love for
homecooking and crafts, asked my sister for a good recipe.

So, you see before you my own take on her concoction: curry, lemon
grass and peppercorn pickled Kholrabi and beans.

I'll see in about 3 weeks if they are as yummy as they looked. Sophia,
my oldest, told me it smelled disgusting, so I may be on the right
track...

Public/private oddities while walking to work

While walking to work this morning I passed a young woman who was speaking impassionately into a mobile phone. She caught up to me at the red light at Western and Wilson and told her friend loud details of her recent breakup, raising her voice with emotion and traffic.

I didn't mean to pry, but I couldn't unhear it, either. It was like an accident you pass on the road.

"He said I was not worth the time and he was just waiting it out! So I said..." You get the idea. I wanted to turn and say to her a few old man wisdom platitudes to comfort her. The impulse came almost as a stand-in for what the friend must have been saying on the phone.

I felt like a voyeur! It made me think of my early dating breakups, and how they all occurred in private. That very concept would be considered prudish by the gal above.

Maybe it's time to start using the headphones again. Or move to the country

Soldier Field at Night: Bears v. Vikings

Man, it was cold. This may have been Brett Favre's last regular season
game, but I've thought that since what? 2002?

Awesome interactive display at the Children's Museum

My favorite part is when the 5 almost 6 year old Sophia describes how it works. Brilliant. But how does it really work? Arduino?

Wishbone rules my cycling world

Saw this on the hostess's podium at Wishbone, a restaurant around the corner from the Fuzzy Math office in Roscoe Village, but I always forget my helmet!

Days of fall past

*sigh*

These beautiful fall days are behind us now, as we tuck into our Turkey or Tofurkey before our long winter's naps...

Barry's beatdown

Ah yes. Here's to proof, delivered on a Friday, that two 40 year old gents can still act as moronic as some 20 something dudes.

Barry and I have been friends for nearly 20 years. For almost 15 years we have played some variety of video game football. From tecmobowl to madden to espn to madden, Barry has consistently beaten me. Until now...
